Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Please contact us if you have questions not addressed here.
- Can I play duets or larger ensemles with my friends? A: Yes, contact us to request specific songs for a specific number of instruments. Most songs availalbe within 6 to 8 weeks.
- Is MyOcarina Clay Flute hard to learn to play? A: No, most people can easily play their MyOcarina Clay Flute within a few minutes.
- Does it matter if I'm Right-handed or Left-handed? A: No, your clay flute is played the same way whether you are Left-handed or Right-handed. The fingers on both hands do the same job (at different times), so both hands work equally.
- Can I play the songs in the MyOcarina Songbook #1 on other ocarinas? A: Yes. The fingering charts make the songs playable on all ocarinas that have at least a 6-note range. Depending on the ocarina, you may have to make fingering adjustments.
- My dog ate some of the building tools. Can you send some more? A: You can order replacement parts in our store.
- I have all the building tools, but want to try again. The one I made didn't quite turn out the way I wanted (my dog ate it before it dried completely). What should I do? A: Order more clay & try again! The tools & the instructions, etc. are re-usable, so just get more clay.
- "Standard Musical Notation" -- What does that mean? A: The MyOcarina Songbooks use "standard musical notation," ie, with the notes & rhythms on the musical staff, as well as tablature for the fingering of your clay flute. If you want to play along with another instrument, like a guitar or piano, you will need an instrument that is properly tuned to the key of "G." They can read the "standard Notation" while you read the ocarina tablature.
- TIP: Did you see the videos of the ocarina made with the MyOcarina kit on our homepage? You can hear the ocarina being played by professional flutist & composer, Tom Reese, the founder of the Ocarina Project. The cello & violin can easily match the pretty tone & pitch of the MyOcarina clay flute.
- Is the finger pattern the same on other ocarinas as the MyOcarina clay flute? A: The 6-note design is primarily pentatonic but can be cross-fingered like other ocarinas. Charts for cross-fingering not included.
